Deprivation of Refugee Status in France: The Pavlensky Case

Лишение статуса беженца Павленскому во Франции - последствия для общественного порядка и миграционной политики

OFPRA is considering the deprivation of refugee status for Pyotr Pavlensky in France due to threats to public order and violations of laws.

OFPRA — the French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons, is considering the deprivation of refugee status for Russian artist Pyotr Pavlensky. Refugee status in France is not a lifetime guarantee and can be revoked if a person poses a serious threat to public order and violates French laws.
Pavlensky was granted asylum in France in 2017 as an artist persecuted in his home country for his political actions. However, during his time in France, he has repeatedly been involved in high-profile criminal cases.
One of the most notable cases was the arson of the Bank of France in Paris. Later, a widely publicized case emerged regarding the publication of personal materials of a French politician in 2020, after which the politician withdrew his candidacy for the mayoral elections in Paris. Pavlensky himself claimed that this was a form of political and artistic expression.
