Changes in the Extension of Temporary Protection in France

Изменения в правилах продления временной защиты во Франции - новые налоговые требования для иностранцев

New rules for extending temporary protection in France require payment of a tax for the second extension. Find out how this may affect you.

As of May 1, 2026, the rules for extending documents for individuals benefiting from temporary protection in France have changed. This is based on Law No. 2026-103 of February 19, 2026, on finances for 2026.
Article 128 of this law amended Article L.436-1 of the Code on the Entry and Stay of Foreigners and the Right of Asylum (CESEDA), establishing a tax of 100 euros for the issuance and extension of a temporary residence permit (APS), which is also issued under temporary protection.
The law provides an exception for individuals benefiting from temporary protection. The tax is not levied on the first issuance of the document and its first extension. Starting from the second extension, the payment of a tax stamp (timbre fiscal) of 100 euros is required.
Thus, many holders of temporary protection, who previously extended their documents for free, may face the necessity of paying this fee when they next approach the prefecture.
Before submitting documents, it is recommended to check the current requirements of your prefecture, as the procedure and list of documents may vary depending on the department.
