Political Manipulations in the Elections in France

Learn how politicians in France use immigration as a tool for manipulation in elections, diverting attention from real issues.

In France, elections for a new president will take place in a few months. Politicians are actively using rhetoric about restricting immigration, tightening rules for foreigners, and banning the wearing of the hijab.
These statements are often manipulative. When there are many unresolved issues in the country, it is easier to direct discontent towards a specific group, making them the cause of what is happening. Foreigners become an ideal target, as a significant portion of them cannot vote due to lack of citizenship.
This creates a common enemy against whom people can unite and blame for the country’s problems. It distracts attention from real issues and the responsibility for solving them.
The economy, public debt, housing, education, taxes, conditions for work and business — all these are issues of state policy, just like immigration. The state determines who and under what conditions the country accepts. If policies create problems, those need to be addressed, not foreigners blamed.
