Changes for Foreign Students in France from 2026

Starting August 1, 2026, the requirements for foreign students in France will change. The minimum amount required for obtaining a student residence permit will increase.

New requirements for foreign students
From August 1, the minimum amount that must be confirmed for obtaining or renewing a student residence permit will increase. Until August 1, it was required to confirm the presence of €615 per month. For applications submitted from August 1, approximately €877.50 per month will be required. If the application was submitted before August 1, the previous requirements remain in effect.
Increased rates for savings accounts
From August 1, interest rates will change:
— Livret A — 1.7%;
— LDDS — 1.7%;
— LEP — 2.5%.
Electricity will become more expensive
From August 1, regulated electricity tariffs will increase on average by 2.5%.
Increased back-to-school allowance
Families entitled to the Allocation de rentrée scolaire (ARS) will receive an increased payment before the start of the new school year. The maximum amount of the allowance is now €466.02 per child.
Extension of the €100 fuel payment
Applications for the payment can be submitted until August 31, 2026.
New restrictions on telemarketing calls
From August 11, most commercial calls without prior consent from the recipient will be prohibited.
New rules for artificial intelligence
From August 2, new requirements for the use of artificial intelligence will be introduced in the European Union. Companies will need to use AI more transparently, and in some cases, inform that text, images, or videos were created with its help.
